Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, "We are going up to Jerusalem and everything written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. Luke 18:31
The journeys Jesus took as a boy with Mary and Joseph for the Passover Festival in Jerusalem were undoubtedly delightful. But this was not the case with the journey He announced to the twelve in today's text. There would be no smooth road to follow. At the end of the trip no shining city would await them. Instead it was Jerusalem, on what the hymn writer called a "green hill" outside the city wall, where Jesus Himself would be crucified.
All that Jesus had predicted, on basis of prophetic writings was fulfilled. He was handed over to the Gentiles - to Pontius Pilate and the Roman troops - to a humiliating and agonizing death. What was coming was not pleasant. Yes His love prompted Jesus to proceed with the journey. He knew there was no other way for a world of sinners to be saved. With His death He would pay the price for their redemption.
In spirit we travel with Jesus to learn anew the great price He paid for our salvation. It will be a 40-day journey. In doing this, we realize that divine grace is not cheap but that we were bought with a high price. The Lenten Journey we are about to make is no picnic. No, it calls us to repentance. Our love for the Savior prompts us to say, "Jesus, lead the way. We will follow!"
Spend time extra time on Wednesday evenings in Lent at 5:00 pm as we focus on the passion of Christ.
Jesus Bless you!

Lenten Worship Services
Each Wednesday through Lent we offer a worship service at 5:00 pm and a dinner follows in the Parish Hall about 6:00 pm. These services focus on the passion of Christ, His death and sacrifice for the sins of the world. It is a wonderful way to ponder and learn what Jesus endured for your salvation.
I invite you to set aside Wednesday evenings in Lent for worship and fellowship with your fellow believers. There is a 7:00 pm service exactly like the 5 pm service at Canoga Park Lutheran.
Lenten Gleaners
Lenten Gleaners are intended for a special mission offering. The gleaner is a folder that holds quarters for the forty days of Lent. They should be returned on Easter Sunday.
The mission offering will be added to the Sunday School and Preschool Mission Project this year. The goal is to purchase two wells in Africa. Operation Blessings - Living Water is a project to dig bore wells for remote villages in Africa who have no permanent water supply. Each well costs $1,800 and our goal is to purchase two of them. Each bore well will be dug and a plaque inscribed with our name and a Scripture passage in English and the native language will be placed nearby.
The children have given $725 so far toward this mission. You are invited to support this through the Lenten Gleaners.
