Human CareHUMAN CARE MINISTRY
The ORLC Human Care Ministry (Pantry) was founded in 1988 to assist the homeless and needy in the surrounding community. This ministry is an all volunteer outreach providing food, clothing, hygiene items, showers, haircuts and the word of Christ to several hundred families and homeless each week. In the course of a month over 1,500 volunteer hours of service are given to the ministry - a large percent from non members of ORLC. These volinteers supply approximately 6,000 meals a month including about 800 hot meals from the ORLC kitchen.
Food is obtained through FEMA, the USPS Food Drive and donations regularly provided by a group of local super markets. Excess food is distibuted to other local food pantries such as Lutheran Social Services. Certain types of food such as produce and meats are purchased by the pantry.
The ministry is always in need of volunteers to conduct its activities. Needs range from staffing the intake desk, sorting clothing, food handling to super market pick up route drivers Please if you can help - even a few hours a week - call the Human Care Ministry at 818-341-1629, Wednesday through Friday 10:00am to 2:30pm.
Although an all volunteer operation with the majority of its food donated, the Human Care Ministry depends on donated funds to maintain its operations, Like the volunteer workers, a significant portion of these funds are provided by non-members. Your donations are needed and greatly appreciated.
We praise the Lord for this important ministry and for all those who support it with their time and money.May we continue to serve our brothers and sisters in need in the community in the years ahead.
